Sony's current Blu-Ray DVD Player collection consists of the BDP-S300, BDP-S350, BDP-S500, BDP-S550 and the PlayStation 3.

The BDP-S350 is due out in the UK in Septmeber and expected to be a Best Buy for a Blu-Ray DVD Player at under £300.

The Sony BDP-S350 blu-ray dvd player offers 24p true-cinema mode, HD upscaling of standard definition dvds to full 1080p, and is "BD-live" ready. This means that in October the latest enabling firmware will be available for this Sony Blu-Ray DVD Player. It also has a quick start up mode which lets you watch a disc in just six seconds from powering on the machine. Wow!

The Sony BDP-S550 blu-ray dvd player offers the same functions as its BDP-S350 brother, but it already has "BD-Live" built-in. This Blu-Ray DVD Player also includes 1GB of exchangeable USB storage which means you can save downloaded "BD-Live" content from the internet. Audio wise, it's higher spec too, supporting the decoding of DTS-HD Master Audio as well as 7.1 channel analogue audio on the blu-ray dvd player.

The Sony BDP-S300 blu-ray dvd player shows just what the HD format is capable of. Through its use of a specially developed blue laser, the Sony Blu-Ray DVD Player stores many times more information than a normal DVD. This means that films can be shown in full 1080p - the highest video quality currently possible. The up-shot of this are all the superb levels of contrast, vivid colour and sensational realism you would expect from a Sony.

The Sony BDP-S500 blu-ray dvd player adds many of the features missing from the BDP-S300, including Dolby True HD and DTS HD decoding. The exterior of the Sony Blu-Ray DVD Player is also massively better thanks mostly to the motorised front panel that elegantly slides down after pressing open/close. The case is also larger, presumably to help all that high end circuitry inside to breathe, but despite the chunky dimensions this deck still manages to look classy in a understated sort of way.
